Taglit-Birthright Israel is an innovative program co-founded by philanthropists Charles Bronfman and Michael Steinhardt, who together with other prominent Jewish philanthropists from across the world, initiated a first of its kind partnership with the Government of Israel and Jewish communities from all over the world (directly and through the North American Jewish Federations, the Jewish Agency and the Keren Hayesod Foundation). Thanks to the unprecedented generous donations of Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, many thousands of applicants who were previously on the waiting list, can now join the program.
Living up to its name: for most youngsters participating in the project, the program is truly a discovery [the meaning of Taglit] in all pertaining to modern Israel and life in Israel. Thousands of young Jewish adults from around the world, who usually find themselves detached from their Jewish identity and Israel, are exposed to the country for the first time through the gift of an educational tour. This extraordinary experience strengthens and enriches their Jewish identity and pumps young blood into Jewish communities across the world.
