Taglit–Birthright Israel is the biggest and most successful Jewish educational program in the Jewish world. The program was founded in order to diminish the growing division between Israel and Jewish communities around the world; to strengthen the sense of solidarity among world Jewry; and to strengthen participants' personal Jewish identity and connection to the Jewish people.
Taglit's vision is to offer each Jewish young adult, aged 18 to 26, the opportunity to visit Israel for ten fascinating days, filled with educational tours and an initial introduction to the people and the country. During the visit participants -- mostly college students and young professionals -- tour sites that are central to the history of the Jewish state as well as learn about modern Israel.
On each trip, groups are joined by young Israelis, university students and mostly soldiers from IDF's elite units – over 25,000 to date have participated -- who then teach their visiting guests as much about Israel as they learn about Jews in the Diaspora. The Israeli participants report of reinforcing their affinity to Judaism, connection to Jews from foreign countries and a pronounced rise in their sense of pride in Israel and its achievements.
The program’s participants return to their countries filled with exciting experiences and new discoveries about Israel.
